Socure Inc. is a private identity-verification and fraud-prevention platform, founded by CEO Johnny Ayers in 2012, that processes personal information on behalf of business Customers (banks, fintechs, gig platforms) to verify identities and score fraud risk. Its own Global Privacy Policy discloses an extensive collection footprint — government ID numbers, financial account and transaction data, selfies and ID document images, biometric facial landmarks and embeddings, device/browser/network data including GPS geolocation and SIM-swap activity, and behavioral session data — sourced from Customers, data vendors, and users' own devices, and states it independently builds 'derived insights (including insights across our consortium of customers) and network/graph-based risk intelligence' outside any single Customer's control. Personal information, including biometric data in some cases, is disclosed to Customers, Third-Party Service Providers, Customer-Enabled Integration Partners, and Socure's own corporate subsidiaries and affiliates, including for machine-learning model training. Socure raised $450M in a Series E round at a $4.5B valuation in November 2021, per its own blog. A July 2024 letter from a New York State Senator to the state's Chief Information Officer, hosted by StateScoop, describes Socure as an 'AI and data broker company' that 'collects, purchases and stores billions of data points... on New Yorkers without their consent,' and references an unanswered Congressional letter from Rep. Ritchie Torres about racial/ethnic bias and transparency, plus an ongoing commercial lawsuit alleging Socure's fraud-prevention accuracy fell far short of its advertised rate. No FTC or state-AG order, judgment, or independent security audit was found in this research.

Socure's Global Privacy Policy states it collects biometric information, including facial landmarks (coordinates of eyes, mouth, nose, chin) and facial embeddings (a vector representation of facial features) derived from photographs on a user's government-issued ID and/or selfie, in addition to identifiers such as SSNs, driver's license numbers, and financial account and transaction data.
Socure's own company blog states the company raised $450M as part of a Series E round at a $4.5B valuation in November 2021, and identifies Johnny Ayers as founder and CEO of the company since he founded it in 2012.
Socure's Global Privacy Policy identifies the operating entity as 'Socure Inc.', the company responsible for the data practices described in the policy.
Socure's disclosure table states personal information — including, in some flows, biometric information — is shared with Customers, Third-Party Service Providers, Customer-Enabled Integration Partners, and Socure's own Corporate Subsidiaries and Affiliates, the last explicitly for purposes including internal fraud/identity research, bias and fairness testing, and training, development, validation and improvement of machine learning models.
A July 10, 2024 letter from a New York State Senator to the state's Chief Information Officer, hosted by StateScoop, describes Socure as an 'AI and data broker company' and states it 'collects, purchases and stores billions of data points, including sensitive personal identifiable information, on New Yorkers without their consent to confirm their identities'; the same letter references an unanswered letter from Congressman Ritchie Torres asking Socure how it will mitigate racial, ethnic and socioeconomic bias and for greater transparency about its data practices, and an ongoing commercial lawsuit alleging Socure's fraud-prevention accuracy fell far short of its advertised rate.
The same privacy policy states Socure collects Device, Browser, and Network Information, including GPS geolocation coordinates, IP address, unique device identifiers, device make/model, mobile carrier, and SIM swap activity, plus behavioral data and inferences about how a user typically interacts with their device during a session.
