WHAT THE POLICIES SAY

GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program) is a free, open-source desktop image editor developed as a community project under the GNU General Public License, with no company, account system, or telemetry backend of its own. Its own Privacy Policy states the software and the project do not collect, transmit, share or use any personal data, contain no trackers or ads, and store no cookies on the website; the only network activity is an optional weekly update-check and on-demand loading of the in-app user manual. Donations are handled by the GNOME Foundation, a named 501(c)(3) nonprofit that acts as GIMP's fiscal agent, and development happens in the open on GNOME's GitLab with tens of thousands of public commits. Official release binaries ship published SHA256 checksums with linked VirusTotal scans. The main wart the policy itself flags: loading or saving files over a remote protocol can expose the user's IP to that remote host, which is outside GIMP's control.

SHARING
The Privacy Policy discloses a real caveat: if a user chooses to load or save a file over a remote protocol, their IP or other private data may be exposed to that remote host as part of the normal connection flow, which is outside GIMP's control.

TRACK RECORD
