WHAT THE POLICIES SAY

BeReal is a French photo-sharing app operated by BeReal SAS (Paris), owned since June 2024 by Voodoo, the mobile games and apps publisher that acquired it for EUR 500m. It collects dual-camera photos and videos, GPS location (precise street-level shared by default for non-minors who enable it), address-book contacts, chat content, and mobile advertising identifiers. After launching as an ad-free alternative to mainstream social media, BeReal opened a native US advertising platform in April 2025 and works with ad networks and mediation partners whose SDKs collect data directly from devices; the policy permits matching hashed audience lists from advertisers against user accounts. It operates under GDPR with the CNIL as lead authority, publishes its ad-partner list, and states it does not sell personal information as traditionally understood. No breach or regulator action was found.
